Tired of not being able to afford to pay car insurance each month? You have the same problem as many other consumers.
You have multiple insurance companies to buy insurance from, and though it is a good thing to have multiple companies, so many choices can make it hard to get the best deal.
Comparing insurance rates can be challenging if you don’t utilize the most efficient way to do it. You can waste hours talking to local insurance agents in your area, or you can utilize online quoting to quickly compare rates.
Many of the larger companies participate in a marketplace that enables customers to enter their policy data once, and each company provides a quote based on that information. This saves time by eliminating repetitive form submissions to each company.

One minor caviat to using this type of form is you cannot specify which insurance companies you want to price. If you wish to select individual companies for rate comparison, we put together a list of companies who write insurance in your area. Click here to view list.
Take whichever approach you prefer, but compare nearly identical coverage data for every quote you compare. If your comparisons have mixed coverages you will not be able to determine the lowest rate for your Scion xD. Just slight variations in coverage limits could throw off the whole comparison. And when comparison shopping, comparing more company’s prices gives you a better chance of getting better pricing. Not every company allows you to get rate quotes online, so you need to compare rates from them, too.
Insurance can cost an arm and a leg, but you may qualify for discounts to cut the cost considerably. Certain credits will be shown at the time of quoting, but a few must be requested specifically in order for you to get them.
A quick disclaimer, some of the credits will not apply to the overall cost of the policy. Most only cut individual premiums such as physical damage coverage or medical payments. Even though it may seem like all those discounts means the company will pay you, it just doesn’t work that way.
The best car insurance companies and their possible discounts are included below.
Before you buy a policy, ask every insurance company what discounts are available to you. Some discounts listed above might not be offered on policies in your area.
When choosing the best car insurance coverage for your personal vehicles, there is no single plan that fits everyone. Each situation is unique so your insurance needs to address that. For example, these questions might help in determining whether your personal situation will benefit from professional help.
If you can’t answer these questions, then you may want to think about talking to a licensed insurance agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, complete this form or you can go here for a list of companies in your area.
Having a good grasp of your policy can help you determine appropriate coverage and proper limits and deductibles. The terms used in a policy can be confusing and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording. Shown next are the usual coverages found on the average insurance policy.
Liability coverage will cover damage that occurs to a person or their property that is your fault. Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. Your policy might show liability limits of 50/100/50 that translate to $50,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, $100,000 for the entire accident, and $50,000 of coverage for damaged propery.
Liability can pay for claims such as bail bonds, attorney fees, repair costs for stationary objects and loss of income. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is a personal decision, but buy as high a limit as you can afford.
Your UM/UIM coverage provides protection when other motorists either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. Covered claims include injuries to you and your family as well as damage to your Scion xD.
Since a lot of drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is a good idea.
Med pay and PIP coverage reimburse you for short-term medical expenses for ambulance fees, dental work, hospital visits and pain medications. They are often used to fill the gap from your health insurance program or if you lack health insurance entirely. They cover all vehicle occupants and will also cover any family member struck as a pedestrian. PIP coverage is not available in all states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
This will pay to fix damage to your xD from colliding with another car or object. A deductible applies and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision insurance covers claims such as sideswiping another vehicle, backing into a parked car and crashing into a building. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so consider dropping it from vehicles that are older. It’s also possible to bump up the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Comprehensive insurance coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive coverage pays for things like rock chips in glass, theft and damage from getting keyed. The most your insurance company will pay is the ACV or actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s not worth carrying full coverage.

I live east of Manchester, NH. Compared rates from a lot of places. Saved about $40 a month. 21st Century was the cheapest for me. Was with Encompass.

Liked the article. I live east of Las Cruces, NM. Got car insurance prices from Travelers, Amica, Hartford, and Nationwide for my Scion and I think I saved about $60 each month. BTW speeding tickets are not good. Just waiting to see how claims go.

I got decent rates for a 2013 Scion xD in Augusta, GA. Ended up at roughly $560 every six months with AIG Insurance. Was with GEICO. Thankfully I’m not a high risk driver. It’s still not cheap enough.

If you’re a decent driver and live around Fort Wayne, Indiana, check out GEICO. They seem to be cheaper. Even increased my liability limits. It’s still not cheap enough.
