I can’t think of a single person who likes paying for auto insurance, especially knowing they are paying too much. Vehicle owners have many car insurance companies to pick from, and even though it’s nice to be able to choose, lots of choices makes it harder to find the lowest rates.
Shopping for cheaper auto insurance coverage is quite easy. If you are insured now or are looking for a new policy, you can follow these tips to shop for the lowest rates and possibly find even better coverage. Drivers only need to know the most efficient way to buy auto insurance online.
Lowering your 1998 Acura TL insurance rates is actually quite simple. The only requirement is to take a few minutes comparing rates from some recommended companies. Comparing prices online can be done using one of these methods.
The simplest way to compare a lot of rates at once is a comparison rater form like this one (opens in new window). This method keeps you from doing separate quotation requests for every prospective company. Filling out one form gets you price quotes from several companies.
A slightly less efficient method to find better pricing is to take the time to go to the website of each company to complete a price quote. For example, we’ll pretend you want to compare rates from Farmers, 21st Century and Liberty Mutual. To get each rate you have to take the time to go to each site and repeatedly type in your coverage information, which is why first method is reommended. The most time-consuming method to compare price estimates to local insurance agencies. Comparing rates online eliminates the middleman unless you require the advice and guidance that can only be provided by a licensed insurance agent. Some companies do allow you to find lower rates online but have a local agent actually write the policy.
It’s up to you how you get prices quotes, just be certain you are entering the same coverages for every company. If your comparisons have different coverage information then you won’t be able to determine which rate is truly the best.
The price of auto insurance can be rather high, but you may find discounts that many consumers don’t even know exist. A few discounts will automatically apply when you quote, but once in a while a discount must be manually applied prior to receiving the credit.
As a sidenote, some credits don’t apply to the entire policy premium. Most cut the cost of specific coverages such as liability, collision or medical payments. So when the math indicates all those discounts means the company will pay you, nobody gets a free ride.
Larger auto insurance companies and the discounts they provide are:
Before buying, ask all companies you are considering which discounts can lower your rates. Some of the earlier mentioned discounts might not be offered in every state. To see providers that can offer you the previously mentioned discounts, click this link.
When it comes to buying proper insurance coverage, there really is no single plan that fits everyone. Everyone’s situation is a little different so your insurance needs to address that. For instance, these questions may help you determine if you might need professional guidance.
If it’s difficult to answer those questions, then you may want to think about talking to an agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form or click here for a list of insurance companies in your area. It’s fast, doesn’t cost anything and you can get the answers you need.
Knowing the specifics of insurance aids in choosing which coverages you need and proper limits and deductibles. The coverage terms in a policy can be difficult to understand and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording. Shown next are typical coverage types found on most insurance policies.
Insurance for medical payments
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage kick in for immediate expenses for pain medications, ambulance fees and EMT expenses. They can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance plan or if you lack health insurance entirely. Medical payments and PIP cover you and your occupants and also covers any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is not available in all states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
Collision protection
This coverage pays for damage to your TL caused by collision with an object or car. A deductible applies then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision insurance covers claims like hitting a mailbox, colliding with another moving vehicle, sustaining damage from a pot hole and colliding with a tree. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from vehicles that are older. Another option is to raise the deductible to bring the cost down.
Liability coverage
This coverage can cover damages or injuries you inflict on a person or their property by causing an accident. It protects you from legal claims by others. Liability doesn’t cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.
Coverage consists of three different limits, per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have values of 100/300/100 that means you have $100,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a total of $300,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and property damage coverage for $100,000. Some companies may use a combined single limit or CSL which limits claims to one amount without having the split limit caps.
Liability coverage protects against claims like repair bills for other people’s vehicles, pain and suffering, legal defense fees, emergency aid and medical expenses. How much coverage you buy is a personal decision, but buy as high a limit as you can afford.
Uninsured Motorist or Underinsured Motorist insurance
Your UM/UIM coverage protects you and your vehicle when the “other guys” either have no liability insurance or not enough. This coverage pays for hospital bills for your injuries as well as damage to your 1998 Acura TL.
Since many drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their limits can quickly be used up. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked. Normally your uninsured/underinsured motorist coverages do not exceed the liability coverage limits.
Comprehensive coverage (or Other than Collision)
This pays for damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. You need to pay your deductible first and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage protects against claims such as hail damage, theft and hitting a bird. The maximum payout you’ll receive from a claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle is not worth much consider dropping full coverage.
We just showed you a lot of information how to lower your 1998 Acura TL insurance prices. The key concept to understand is the more rate comparisons you have, the better your chances of lowering your rates. You may even discover the best prices are with a company that doesn’t do a lot of advertising. Some small companies may only write in your state and offer lower rates than their larger competitors like State Farm and Allstate.
Some insurance companies may not provide online price quotes and most of the time these smaller providers provide coverage only through local independent agents. Budget-friendly car insurance is definitely available online in addition to local insurance agencies, so you should compare both so you have a total pricing picture.

Is Progressive cheaper than Amica in Providence, RI?

Cheaper not always better. I’m in the south part of Huntington, WV. I got free quotes with Auto-Owners, Encompass, and Safeco for my 1998 Acura TL and am saving around $60 a year. They have a lot of discounts available. Can still barely afford it. It’s too old for full coverage.

For me, GEICO was by far the cheapest in Aurora, Colorado.

I switched to State Farm. Quoted good rates in Bangor, ME. Have a couple speeding tickets too.

If you’re a decent driver and are close to Bellevue, NE, check out Allstate. I saved quite a bit. I get lower rates because of my clean driving record.

I got a good deal I think. I live in a small town just outside of Norfolk, VA. Compared quite a few companies. Saved right around $20 a month. Progressive was the most affordable for me. Still almost need a second mortgage. I don’t put full coverage on it.

I got decent rates for a 1998 Acura TL in Virginia Beach, VA. Ended up at right around $110 every six months with Amica. It’s only liability tho.
