Did you fall for a flashy sales pitch and buy an overpriced auto insurance policy? It’s a common feeling and many consumers feel financially strained by their auto insurance policy.

Buying car insurance is quite easy. If you are paying for car insurance now, you will most likely be able to save some money using this strategy. Although consumers need to have an understanding of the way insurance companies sell insurance online.
The most recommended method to compare car insurance rates is to understand almost all companies will pay a fee to quote your coverage. The only thing you need to do is give them some information such as types of safety features, if you require a SR-22, which vehicles you own, and what you do for a living. That rating data is then submitted to all major companies and you will receive price estimates instantly.

The best auto insurance companies and a partial list of their discounts can be read below.

Learning about specific coverages of your auto insurance policy helps when choosing which coverages you need and the correct deductibles and limits. Auto insurance terms can be impossible to understand and coverage can change by endorsement. Shown next are typical coverage types available from auto insurance companies.
Comprehensive or Other Than Collision – This coverage pays for damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You first have to pay a deductible then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive insurance covers claims like theft, damage from a tornado or hurricane, falling objects, damage from getting keyed and rock chips in glass. The most you’ll receive from a claim is the actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value consider removing comprehensive coverage.
UM/UIM Coverage – This protects you and your vehicle when other motorists either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. Covered losses include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and also any damage incurred to your 1996 Nissan 300ZX.
Due to the fact that many drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, their limits can quickly be used up. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is important protection for you and your family.
Medical costs insurance – Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance provide coverage for expenses like nursing services, rehabilitation expenses, doctor visits and EMT expenses. They are used to fill the gap from your health insurance plan or if you lack health insurance entirely. Coverage applies to all vehicle occupants as well as getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP is not an option in every state but can be used in place of medical payments coverage
Collision – This coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage resulting from colliding with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. You will need to pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision coverage protects against claims like rolling your car, colliding with a tree and backing into a parked car. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so consider removing coverage from lower value vehicles. You can also bump up the deductible to bring the cost down.
Liability coverage – Liability insurance protects you from injuries or damage you cause to other’s property or people by causing an accident. This insurance protects YOU against other people’s claims. Liability doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. You commonly see values of 25/50/25 which stand for $25,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a limit of $50,000 in injury protection per accident, and $25,000 of coverage for damaged propery.
Liability coverage protects against things such as medical services, emergency aid, structural damage and bail bonds. How much liability should you purchase? That is your choice, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as large an amount as possible.
Cheaper car insurance can be found on the web and also from your neighborhood agents, so you should compare both to have the best rate selection. Some insurance companies may not have online quoting and many times these small insurance companies work with independent agents.
When searching for low cost insurance quotes, make sure you don’t reduce needed coverages to save money. In too many instances, someone sacrificed uninsured motorist or liability limits to discover at claim time that it was a big error on their part. Your goal should be to buy a smart amount of coverage for the lowest cost and still be able to protect your assets.

If you have a good history and live around Newark, NJ, check out Allstate. They seem to be cheaper. Hopefully won’t need it. It’s too old for full coverage.

Where is cheaper car insurance? From northwest of Dover, DE. I quoted with Western Auto Insurance, Auto-Owners, Liberty Mutual, and Sentry for my 1996 Nissan 300ZX and saved just over $100 a year. Left Travelers to switch. Even increased my liability limits.

Good detail in your article. Quoted with Allstate for my 1996 Nissan 300ZX and am saving around $100 a year. Insured with GEICO before. Ask about discounts. Just go online and compare their rates. My 300ZX doesn’t have full coverage.
