Learning about specific coverages of your auto insurance policy aids in choosing appropriate coverage for your vehicles. The terms used in a policy can be ambiguous and coverage can change by endorsement.
This coverage protects you and your vehicle from other motorists when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. It can pay for hospital bills for your injuries and also any damage incurred to your Nissan Sentra.
Since many drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked. Usually your uninsured/underinsured motorist coverages are set the same as your liablity limits.
Comprehensive insurance pays to fix your vehicle from damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. A deductible will apply then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage protects against claims like hitting a bird, damage from a tornado or hurricane, a tree branch falling on your vehicle, vandalism and hitting a deer. The highest amount your auto insurance company will pay is the cash value of the vehicle, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Liability coverage protects you from injuries or damage you cause to people or other property in an accident. It protects you from legal claims by others. Liability doesn’t cover damage to your own property or vehicle.
Liability coverage has three limits: per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. You commonly see values of 25/50/25 that translate to $25,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a per accident bodily injury limit of $50,000, and property damage coverage for $25,000. Some companies may use a combined limit which provides one coverage limit without having the split limit caps.
Liability can pay for claims like loss of income, repair costs for stationary objects, funeral expenses and bail bonds. How much coverage you buy is a decision to put some thought into, but buy higher limits if possible.
This coverage covers damage to your Sentra resulting from a collision with a stationary object or other vehicle. You have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the remainder.
Collision coverage protects against things like colliding with another moving vehicle, crashing into a building and driving through your garage door. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from lower value vehicles. It’s also possible to increase the deductible to bring the cost down.
Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance kick in for bills like nursing services, surgery, chiropractic care, rehabilitation expenses and EMT expenses. They are often used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance program or if there is no health insurance coverage. Medical payments and PIP cover all vehicle occupants in addition to any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection is not universally available and may carry a deductible

Here’s what I found out. I’m from Saint Louis, Missouri. I quoted with USAA, American Family, The General, and Safeco for my Sentra and saved $63 a year. Was with Eastwood. Teenage drivers are expensive! I don’t put full coverage on it.

Does Allstate do SR22s in Oklahoma?

Liked the article. I live just to the north of Los Angeles, CA. Compared quite a few companies. Saved right around $20 a month. Allstate was the best choice for me. I don’t insure for physical damage though.

If you’re a decent driver and live in the vicinity of Parkersburg, WV, check out State Farm. You might save some money. I have a couple other vehicles on the policy. Hardly afford to drive anymore.

Lifelong resident of Norman, OK. I quoted with American Family, Sentry, and some smaller one I can’t remember the name of for my Sentra and I’m now saving $10 a month. Insured with American Family before. Only insure liability on my Nissan.

This is too expensive. From northwest of Fort Wayne, IN. Quoted prices from State Farm, Auto-Owners, Esurance, and Liberty Mutual for my 1992 Nissan Sentra and saved around $90 a year. Left MetLife to switch. LOL I think I’ll get rid of full coverage next time.

$100 to anyone who understands their policy.

If you don’t have tickets and are close to Augusta, GA, check out State Farm. They seem to be cheaper. Insured with Farmers before. Not sure if rates are cheaper online or not. I just carry liability insurance.
